Adam Johnson threw three touchdown passes, and John I. Leonard rallied from a fourth-quarter deficit to defeat Wellington 24-14 on Friday night.
The Lancers (3-0) trailed 14-7 entering the final quarter but scored 17 points in six minutes on Johnson's 53-yard touchdown pass to Nesly Ovincy, a 35-yard field goal by Danny Zamorano and Johnson's 24-yard touchdown to Jerry Jones.
John I. Leonard's defense held the Wolverines (2-1) on their final four drives to secure the win.
"The thing that I admire the most is the boys never quit," Lancers coach Wayne Monroe said. "It's a big difference from years past. We're just learning how to win. Tonight we had that philosophy of, 'We're down, but we're never out.' "
Wellington got off to a quick start, scoring its first touchdown midway through the first quarter on Grant Smallridge's 1-yard run. The touchdown followed a fumble recovery by Smallridge on the second play of the game.
The Lancers evened the score with 13 seconds remaining in the quarter on Jones' 28-yard touchdown catch.
The Wolverines went up 14-7 on Andy LeMay's 36-yard run early in the second quarter, and they took the lead into halftime.
The teams played a scoreless third quarter before John I. Leonard rallied in the fourth.
Ovincy's touchdown catch came on the first play of the final quarter and capped a five-play, 74-yard drive.
Zamorano's field goal at 7:59 followed La'Monte Calloway's interception. The Lancers put the game away on Jones' second touchdown reception with 5:44 remaining in the game.
Johnson finished 17-of-28 for 232 yards and three touchdowns, and Ovincy had six catches for 102 yards and a touchdown. Jones added 88 yards receiving and two touchdowns on five catches.
Smallridge led the Wolverines with 67 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries.

Well they just didnt QUIT.....Thats a real good trait for a TEAM to have....I loved the way the defense steady its self and turned the game around....the offense made some big mistakes in the first half, but they showed they can turn it on at any point in a game....This game was good for the team from a learning stand point...Ovincy and Jones will break the county's receiving records this year, receptions and yards.....And Keymonni Miller is a real good cb, seems like every week he is intercepting a pass or making a big pass break up.....Cant wait to see next weeks match up with Lake worth, this should be the game that defines this teams legacy.....#COUNTRY TOUGH

Monroe is doing a great job with this Johnson kid. Reads well, knows when to hang in the pocket or run it out of bounds, tucks and runs very well. Sunday mornings pay off.

Great win Lancers! One game at a time, one win at a time! Stay humble and focused. Ignore the trash talk from the other teams and continue to let the score board represent who you really are...a TEAM on a victory mission!
