Palm Beach Post Reports

Cardinal Newman dominated Suncoast on both sides of the line of scrimmage, racking up nearly 300 rushing yards and limiting the Chargers to 76 yards of net offense in a 40-0 rout on Friday night.

Sophomore Sha'corey Foster led the Crusaders (3-0) with 15 carries for 75 yards and a touchdown, but junior Devonte Brown (nine carries, 71 yards) and freshman Erick Hardnett (five carries for 104 yards and two touchdowns in the fourth quarter) also contributed to the ground game. Quarterback Brett Benes was also effective with 148 passing yards, including a 34-yard touchdown to Foster and a 74-yard strike to Brown in the second quarter to build a 20-0 halftime lead.

Defensively, freshman linebacker Charles Perry sacked Suncoast quarterback Jesse Hap four times and Ray Masciarella added another as Suncoast finished the night with -13 yards rushing. Matt Burke, Collin Grill, and Taylor DeMario added interceptions for Cardinal Newman.

Malcolm Sommons had four catches for 43 yards and Santigie Fornah had an interception for the Chargers (1-2).

No. 5 Atlantic 49, Pahokee 16: Tevin Spells rushed for 125 yards and two touchdowns, Marcus Gaskin added 82 yards on the ground and Rashaad Parker scored two rushing touchdowns as the Eagles (2-1) routed the Blue Devils (0-3) in Pahokee. As a team, Atlantic rushed for 235 yards and five touchdowns on just 19 carries.

No. 7 Park Vista 57, Palm Beach Lakes 7: The Cobras (3-0) rushed for 267 yards and seven touchdowns to rout the Rams (0-3) in Boynton Beach. Nelyja Floyd was the leading rusher, gaining 68 yards and scoring two touchdowns on just five carries. Quarterback Qwad Martin contributed 41 yards and a touchdown on eight carries. The lone bright spot for Palm Beach Lakes was Daruis Robinson finding Fred Taylor up the seam for a 91-yard touchdown pass near the end of the first half. Robinson completed 2-of-9 passes for 145 yards, a touchdown and an interception.

No. 10 Jupiter Christian 52, Inlet Grove 13: Quarterback Kedric Bostic and running backs Jesse Stephanos, Nate Cannon and Isaiah Nelson totaled 415 yards and seven touchdowns on 33 carries as the Eagles (3-0) routed the Hurricanes (1-2) in Riviera Beach.

"We had to take what they gave us," Jupiter Christian coach Bill Powers said of his team's shifting from a passing to a rushing attack. "They were just blitzing everyone on every play, so if we threw the ball, they were going to get pressure on us."

Powers wasn't pleased with the Eagles' four fumbles, one of which they lost.

"We have to eliminate the mistakes and be better at making open-field tackles," Powers said.

Spanish River 26, Olympic Heights 13: The surprising Sharks improved to 3-0 after gaining a big lead and then coasting in the second half against the Lions (0-3) in Boca Raton.

Reggie Love had two touchdown catches for the Sharks, outleaping two defenders to haul in a 52-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Taylor Schnaars, then followed that with a 49-yard catch-and-run that put Spanish River up 26-0 early in the fourth quarter.

"This was like a college game atmosphere tonight!" Sharks coach Ray Berger said. "We're really excited for these kids; they have certainly taken a beating the last few years."

Schnaars was 10-for-21 for 254 yards and Josh Ricks had 128 yards on 12 carries to lead the Sharks' ground game.

The Lions (0-3) had a late surge as quarterback Matt Kelly had a 6-yard touchdown run and then connected with Philip Borosfky for a 27-yard score.

Jonathan Silverio had two interceptions for the Lions

come on now don't write about Newman too much, because of Walsh. They have not beat anybody yet.

River WINS again. Don't know why they did anything but run the ball with a 24-0 lead in the 4th with about 4 mins remaining??? In fact, the attempt to run up the score came back and bit them in the ----. But its ok, because winning is a new experience there and that little lack of humility might just get them more prepared for Dwyer.

River will beat Dwyer.

It will not be easy but they got the talent, the desire, the drive and an organization now. It is just not Coach B alone and he too has settled down . . . our hats off to him for dealing with much personal stuff and going with a whole new program with new coaches and swarming parents who had enuff of the old regime. The "new Shark regime" is in place. Every kid there works hard and plays his position, as do the coaches! If they learn to execute a few more offensive plays and have their corners come up and put the hit on receivers immediately (jamming) at least some of the time they will dismantle anybody and will go far if not all the way in the playoffs. Yes, Spanish River with continued hard work might be unbeatable this season and they just started to grow. They have numerous juniors and seniors that are leaders and their defense can only be described as relentless, crushing, swarming and will put the hurt on any offense. I actually feel sorry for any team having to play River! Its football, and River is a bunch of very tough young men who will play each game as if they are still without a win. They have back up too, a complete bench that can come in and do the job as well. Spanish River is now the real deal and is kickin butt. They just keep on getting better, each player willing to work harder and harder and able to take the discipline. VERY TOUGH TEAM.

I wouldn't go that far to say that, because Dwyer has played a strong schedule already including a preseason game vs Miami Central. Come on man, Glades Central, and now Ridge. Jupiter is pretty good too. Who have you played and beat besides the one of the Boca teams that are only deep in a few positions. You won't beat Dwyer sorry.

Anything is possible with the "SHARKS" they have a tremendous amount of momentum right now. Big plays will make a difference in this one and limiting turners will be the key.
