Forfeit ruling pushes Benjamin's girls lacrosse team into state semifinals

The Benjamin girls lacrosse team advanced to the state semifinals Thursday without having to play a game.
The Florida High School Athletic Association said Vero Beach, the team the Buccaneers were supposed to play in the quarterfinals, must forfeit the game because it violated an FHSAA policy - that a school must play at least 60 percent of its regular-season contests against FHSAA-member schools. The Indians played just eight of their 18 games, or 44.4 percent, against FHSAA teams.
"We just have to focus on our team and what we have to do to be successful," Benjamin coach Megan Quinn said.
Because of the forfeit, the Buccaneers won't play again until April 24.
The Park Vista girls host Fort Lauderdale-Pine Crest at 7 tonight. The Cobras - who are 16-4 and ranked No. 2 in the state - beat St. Andrew's 17-10 Tuesday.
On the boys side, West Boca Raton (16-3) plays Dwyer (14-0) tonight in Naples for a chance to play for the club state title.
The St. Andrew's boys (21-0) host Miami-Gulliver Prep at 7 tonight
