Football: Glades Central defends its 7-on-7 national championship

by Toni-ann Miller

Glades Central football dispatched Tampa-Jefferson 55-45 to defend its NFL National 7-on-7 title July 11 in Tampa.

The Raiders, who represented the Miami Dolphins in the competition, won nine teams during the weekend en route to its second consecutive title.

Coach Jessie Hester said his young team rallied behind its quarterback, Jamarious Rowley, who will play his first season at the helm of the offense in the fall.

"All the focus was on the kids coming in being one of the favorites to win," Hester said. "They had a lot to live up to, and they stepped up and accepted that challenge and did very well.

"It gives the kids some confidence, knowing that they can compete at a high level."

The competition brought together 264 high school players from around the country who had participated in the NFL High School Player Development Program this summer. They did a community service project Friday, and competition got underway Saturday and Sunday.

Just read the second paragraph:

The Raiders, who represented the Miami Dolphins in the competition, won nine teams during the weekend en route to its second consecutive title.

What the hell is "won nine teams"

Won nine games?

Beat nine teams?

High school coverage, the post might want to higher high school reporters!

So who else played well for the Raiders I know mario did his thing,But who else perfomed well in Tampa. This article is weak, kinda like Kelvin Benjamins rivals highlights.

I'm glad to see any positive article about Glades Central. What a game G.C played in the finals . K.B put to much strain on any D-fens . When he don't get the ball teams are double & triple gaurding him. The running game for G.C is going to surprise every body this year.

That didnt help against Chevelle Buie Last year from state game..but congrats

You mean the same 'Chevelle Buie' who Robert Way made fumble with less than 4 minutes in the 4th QT when Cocoa could have iced the game??? GC scores on that drive and it wouldn't be Chevelle Buie but Chevelle WHO?

GatorMuck Fan commented on July 17, 2010 at 5:42 p.m.: flag

Why bring up Buie, the conversation is about G.C winning the 7 on 7.anybody got any feedback from the tournament,or info on where I could find some highlights.I heard G.C won two tournaments with two different squads that weekend, one in Tampa and the other team in Delray.Good Job Raiders

Bigdawg61 I think that you are confused. Glades Central won the 7-on-7 National Championship...NOT Dwyer or any of the coast teams!! Football Fan you are correct Chevelle Buie played an outstanding game and earned a well deserved state championship. Football Fan your jealous fangs are showing. GatorMuck Fan I agree, don't hate on Glades Central because they have reloaded and won not one but two 7-on-7 tourneys. Glades Central has great chance to make it back to the State...can Bigeawg61 or Football Fan say the same?

Coach Hester is a first class act and hope his Raiders will meet our Cocoa Tigers again in the state finals. I know Coach Wilkinson and his staff will continue to teach, lead, and develop our team toward another winning season. Good luck to both teams. See you in Orlando Dec 11.
