Dwyer's Curt Maggitt to announce college choice on outdoors show

Dwyer blue-chip football recruit Curt Maggitt plans on announcing his college plans in an unusual way - on an outdoors sports show.

The 6-foot-4, 210-pound defensive end will make his choice on Respect Outdoors, an outdoor sports show on the Sportsman Channel. The Maggitt episode will air on Dec. 26 at 12:30 p.m. and will include a 30-minute special about Maggitt that will show him hanging out with friends and family, shooting clay pigeons and fishing. Then, he'll choose his school.

"It's basically going to just show me being me, having fun," Maggitt said. "It's going to be fun."

The idea for the special came from the show's host and Maggitt's friend, Robert Arrington, who was wary of the same-old recruiting stories that focus solely on the football aspect of a prep prospect's life.

Arrington said he's filmed about 20 percent of the show. Among many other activities, Arrington wants to film Maggitt fishing with friends before they come back and host a cookout for teammates and coaches using the day's catches.

In short, Arrington wants to make Maggitt transparent and show his full potential as "not only a great football player, but a fantastic kid."

"We didn't think of this so that we could do something new," said Arrington, a Dwyer alum and close friend of Maggitt's older brother, Roosevelt, who plays at Iowa State. "We thought of it so we could tell his story. It just so happens that it's never been done before.

"It's going to impress and blow away a lot of people," said Arrington. "They'll see a side of Curt Maggitt that they never knew."

Maggitt has scholarship offers from Alabama, Florida, FSU, Miami and several others. He hasn't listed any favorites yet.

WHAT? Ah show?!?!?! The kid is awesome, but a show; he smart for coming up with the idea. However, Park Vista will beat overrated Dwyer this year! Dwyer lost too many weapons and was smart not to schedule Glades Central. Good luck anyways Curt Maggitt! NC

Would like to respectfully disagree with my friend officer Cano...Dwyer will not underachieve and PV will be happy to score a TD or two against Dwyer.

Congrats Curt you are really deserving of the opportunity to expose high school football on another level. I think it is great to see you showcase another side of you ,and the other kids coming up behind you need to see that there is more to life than just football . so keep working and grinding and everything else will take care of itself ,also push chief for me he can learn alot from you . 1 more thing I really dont see Park Vista upsetting Dwyer they are too one dimensional .
