Dwyer rolls to boys lacrosse state club championship; Saturday's baseball, flag football results

Saturday, April 18, 2009

Dwyer's Chad Love scored seven goals and Aaron Hamlin contributed four goals, leading the Panthers to a 16-5 rout of Naples-Barron Collier in the club state championship match Saturday.

Dwyer (16-0) fell behind 1-0 early but took control with five consecutive goals. The Panthers led 7-2 after one quarter and 12-2 at halftime and never were threatened.

"We play a very high standard of lacrosse in our part of the state," Dwyer coach Chris Heide said. "We were ready for tough competition coming in.

"The seniors on our team deserve a lot of the credit. They were the ones that gave us the leadership all season long."

Steven Schellbach and Nick O'Leary had two goals for the Panthers, who were leading 16-3 before Barron Collier scored two late goals against Dwyer reserves.

"I have to give kudos to Dwyer," Barron Collier coach Matt Hunter said. "They beat us in all facets of the game. I was happy for our team to get here, but I wished we'd played better."
